The Tide School Method

Each SeaSense Masterclass follows a tried-and-tested structure, teaching you the four most important topics for staying safe at the coast: tides, tidal streams, waves, and rip currents.

You’ll learn how each one works, how to spot the signs of danger, and what to do if things go wrong. Every session is fully customised to your local coastline and chosen activity — whether you swim, paddle, sail, surf, or explore on foot — so the learning is always relevant, practical, and easy to apply in real life.

Tides

Understand how the moon and sun create tidal movement — and how to spot when the sea will rise quickly and cut you off. Learn to read tide timetables with confidence and stay one step ahead.

Tidal Streams

Discover how moving water flows around headlands, harbour mouths and inlets — and how to use it to your advantage or avoid being swept into danger.

Waves

Learn why some waves break gently while others crash with bone-breaking force. Understand how to identify long-period groundswells and short-period wind chop, and the risks they pose in different coastal settings.

Rip Currents

Master the skill of spotting rip currents in 10 seconds or less. Learn what to do if caught in one, how to help others safely, and why most rip deaths happen on deceptively calm days.
